Cracked Glass Card

Another day, another birthday!
Yet again I was flying by the seat of my pants. I had a good excuse reason, my Dad had had a heart attack only a couple of weeks beforehand and I was travelling to a from the hospital most days, that aside, I still needed to get that card in the post. Well, I had to make it first.
Two weeks ago I took delivery of a small pre order of goods from the upcoming catalogue.  Now, I'm very keen on one of our new in Colours. It reminds me of a retired In Colour - Lucky Limeade, which I just LOVED! Due to it's demise, it's now forever known in my craft room as Unlucky Limeade. So, imagine my delight when I spotted new Lemon Lime Twist!
I set out to make this birthday card using the zingy new colour with absolutely no idea of what I would create.
The final card ended up with a 'cracked glass' centrepiece. The sentiment is from another new product - a stamp set called Just Add Text. I managed to incorporate all 5 of the new In Colours by die cutting them into circles with the Stitched Shapes Framelits. and adhering them to the front of the card.
In the centre I cut a square aperture through which you can see the cracked glass sentiment panel. The panel is watercolour paper with inks applied randomly. The sentiment has been heat embossed in gold, the whole panel was covered in versamark and clear embossing powder then heat embossed. Repeat the versamark and clear powder a few times. Flatten the panel to make the cracks appear. By putting the versamark and clear powder over the top of the embossed sentiment, the sentiment 'melts' slightly and the gold takes on a slightly greenish hue.
Open up the card, the area around the sentiment panel is stamped in the In Colours inks and a flower stamp from another new stamp set - Colourful Seasons.
But where to stamp or write your greeting - the back of the card? Not in this case. This card consists of 3 panels. I recently saw a card made like this by Lynn Starzl - a seascape - and loved her finished project. It inspired me to have a go!
Lift up the inside -
A stamped greeting and a place to write your good wishes. The 'Oh Happy day' stamp is from a retiring set - Scenic Sayings. I think it goes well with the other sentiment which says 'May all your tomorrows be as happy as today'.
Of course, you need a matching envelope too!

I'm really rather pleased with this card and sooo enjoyed making it! I hope you like it too!

Thoughtful Branches.

I just came across a photo of a card I made back in March.
I'd had the stamp set for ages. Liked it and thought it would be soooo useful though I never really got around to using it much. Really only played with it once or twice but I needed a card.
This is what I came up with.
The green leaf garland is from the 'Foxy Friends' stamp set. The pink flower stamped flowers and green leaves are die cut from Thoughtful Branches**. The gold foil happy is from my much used, beloved 'Hello you' thinlet dies** and the 'Birthday' is a stamp in the 'Crazy About You'** set.

** These items are now sadly retired. Other items from the current catalogue could easily be substituted.

I hope you liked my pretty card today, pop back on Wednesday for more inspiration.

Just For Fun - May

We don't often do new techniques at our Just for Fun classes, mainly due to the lack of time and not wanting to rush things.
This month we got time to play around with shaving foam and reinkers. A bit like marbling paper, the ink is suspended in the foam rather than water, this also means that the card stock doesn't get so wet and messy.
I took a shallow plastic tray into which I could fit an A4 piece of card. Spray inside the tray with shaving foam until the base is covered, it doesn't need to be too thick. Now drop ink on top, I used 3 colours, then swirl together. Lay the card on top and gently press down a little so that the card come into contact with both the foam and ink. Remove card from the tray. Scrape the foam/ink off, wipe the card with a piece of kitchen paper. Voila!
I made 4 note cards, I had enough marbled card over to make another card too which was shown on my previous post. Here are the note cards -

The ladies had fun with this simple technique - I did think that we might have a table full of foam at one point but all turned out well. They also got to use some soft new Bermuda Bay mini chevron ribbon and the new 'Just Add Text' stamp set.
Why not try out the shaving foam technique yourself - it's fun!

Sneak Peep Birthday

Today is a special lady's birthday. She always makes such fabulous cards that I'm loathe to create anything for her. But I can't let the day just slip by.
This past week I've revisited the shaving foam technique. The results are always different and I really loved the colours on this latest one so decided to use it on the birthday card.
I'd hoarded a little of the Bermuda Bay glimmer card from Saleabration as it was so difficult to part with. Here I've used it with the background I'd made and a homemade birthday topper, created with our die from the new catalogue - Happy Birthday Thinlets. I cut the die 5 times in Whisper White cardstock and once in Bermuda Bay. I then stuck the white ones on top of each other, slightly offset, finishing with the Bermuda Bay. Stacking like this gives it depth. To give it a glossy finish I traced over the letters with our Fine Tip Glue Pen and let it dry before assembling.
If you'd like a copy of the catalogue then do contact me. It will go live on 1st June and is chock full of goodies!
I hope Kim likes her card - mahoosive happy birthday, my friend!!!
